Hello!
My name is Ms Hill and I am your fifth grade science teacher. Having a web page is new to me, so be patient as I learn how to use this online format.
I have been a teacher for more than 30 years. I have taught grades Pre-K through college, but to tell you the truth, fifth grade is my favorite! I have licensure in Elementary grades and Middle School Science, Language Arts, Math and Social Studies. My favorite subject to teach is...surprise! Science!
This is my 17th year at field. I taught at Andersen Open for 10 years, and in other districts for 6 years. I hope to stay at Field for the rest of my teaching career.
GEMS has afforded me many opportunities to learn as well as teach. I have been a GEMS instructor my entire time at Field. I have worked with THE Rocket Boys in Coalwood, West Virginia, and had astronaut training At Cape Kennedy. Nasa comes to Augsburg college every year for teacher training for GEMS/GISE Summer School. Every year I learn new skills in robotics and other GEMS topics.
Every other year I have taken GEMS to Costa Rica over spring break. It never ceases to amaze me the changes I see in my GEMS Girls over the span of 8 days. They grow in their leadership skills, their understanding of other cultures, and in their stewardship of the rain forests.
I love animals, and my classroom shows this. At home I have a cat (Lily,) two dogs (Peaches and Dahlia,) two bunnies (Bittersweet and Trillium,) and 2 birds( Kevie and Mango-Mango.) When I was a child, I brought home any lost or injured animal within my neighborhood. My Mother would roll her eyes and help me mend the animals.
In my spare time I like to read, knit, walk, swim, sew and learn new crafts. This summer I read 12 Books! Long Books!
Welcome to my class!
